Seattle Just Dropped to $117 Nonstop — Below a Floor That Doesn't Usually Break

There's a two-week window in early October when Seattle stops performing and just is.

The summer crowds are gone. The full grey hasn't landed yet. The air goes sharp and clean, the light turns low and gold across Elliott Bay, and the whole city smells like rain that hasn't fallen. Big-leaf maples go yellow along the arterials. The Cascades get their first dusting and you can see it from a downtown sidewalk.

Locals know this. They just don't advertise it.

Seattle costs less than your last grocery run. $117, nonstop, both ways.

This week, San Diego to Seattle dropped to $117 roundtrip on Alaska — nonstop, four hours, gate to gate.

Here's the part that matters. Google's own tracker says the cheap end of this route usually starts at $140 and runs to $200. This fare isn't below average. It's $23 below the floor — Google flags it LOW, which is the tag it only hands out when the price is under the route's own bottom.

And we've been watching this one. On July 18 we listed Seattle in the roundup at $137 roundtrip nonstop — 7% off. Same city, same month, same nonstop shape. It has since fallen another $20, and the discount has deepened from 7% to 22%.

When a fare you already flagged goes down again, that's not a coincidence. That's the signal.

June through August, Seattle is gorgeous and everybody knows it — which is exactly why hotels double and the ferries run full.

October is the trade nobody makes.

Rainier still shows itself on clear mornings, and clear mornings are common in the first half of the month. Pike Place is walkable instead of shoulder-to-shoulder. The Olympic Peninsula's rainforest is at its most saturated green after the first real rains. Salmon are running the fish ladders at the Ballard Locks. Oyster season is open and the Hood Canal beds are at their best.

And the coffee — the actual reason half of Seattle exists — finally makes sense when it's 52 degrees and the fog is sitting on the water.

You want the shoulder. October is the shoulder.

Day one you drop your bag and walk the Pike Place arcade before the tour groups arrive — flower stalls stacked with dahlias and chrysanthemums for eight dollars, a paper cup of something dark, the market floor still wet from the morning hose-down.

Day two you take the Bainbridge ferry, ride it out, then ride it back at dusk just to watch the skyline light up over the water. It costs almost nothing. It's the best hour in the city.

Day three you go up to Kerry Park at golden hour with everyone else who's figured it out, and the Space Needle stacks in front of the downtown towers and Rainier floats behind all of it like it was placed there.

Day four you rent a car and drive to Snoqualmie Falls, then keep going into the Cascades until the road runs out of leaves.

Day five is oysters on the half shell, a bowl of clam chowder that ruins other chowder for you, and a walk through Capitol Hill after dark when the neon is doubled in the wet pavement.

Day six you do nothing on purpose. That's what the extra $23 you didn't spend is for.

Alaska Airlines. Nonstop. Four hours. SAN → SEA.

No connection. No layover in Phoenix. No 20-hour Frontier routing dressed up as a bargain. This is the clean version.

Three October windows are live at $117 — Oct 1–7, Oct 10–17, and Oct 15–21. That flexibility is unusual and it's the reason this one is worth acting on rather than watching: multiple date pairs at the same floor-breaking price means real inventory, and real inventory gets bought.

The moment Alaska's October load factor ticks up, $117 goes back to $140 and nobody sends an email about it.
