It contains everything. Medieval stone towers and brutalist concert halls. Michelin-starred kitchens and £3 pastries from the corner bakery. The National Gallery and the Tate Modern, half a mile apart, both free, both world-class. Kensington afternoon silence and Soho midnight noise.
